How to apply press-on nails
Prep, size and press — a salon-looking set in about ten minutes.
- 1
Start with clean, dry nails
Remove old polish, wash your hands and dry them well. Oils and lotion are the main reason press-ons pop off early.
- 2
Push back cuticles
Use the cuticle stick from your kit to gently push cuticles back so the press-on sits flush against the nail bed.
- 3
Buff and dehydrate
Lightly buff the shine off your natural nail, then wipe each nail with the alcohol pad (or rubbing alcohol) and let it dry.
- 4
Size every finger first
Lay out a nail for each finger before you glue anything. Pick the size that covers your nail edge to edge without touching the skin; if you're between sizes, go smaller and file the sides.
- 5
Apply glue or a tab
For longest wear, put a thin layer of glue on your natural nail and a little on the press-on. For a short-term or reusable wear, use an adhesive tab instead.
- 6
Press and hold
Angle the nail in from the cuticle, press it down and hold firm pressure for 20–30 seconds, pressing the centre and both sides.
- 7
Finish
File or shape the tips if you like. Avoid water and hand cream for the first hour so the glue fully sets.
Good to know
- Glue typically lasts 1–2 weeks; tabs about 1–3 days.
- Apply your dominant hand first, while your other hand is still free.
